Sleek and elegant, this top down cardigan uses an interesting increase technique that creates the illusion of slipped stitches. Real slipped stitches, instead, mark the decreases in the sleeves and the waist shaping in the back. The sleeve shaping, unusually, is mainly worked along the top of the sleeve by working a centered double decrease in the exposed front of the sleeve. A few extra decreases are placed in the hidden part of the sleeve. All of the borders in the cardigan are knitted in the Embossed leaves pattern from a 1970’s stitch collection. This is an easy combination of knit and purl which lays flat, but it is not elastic and will not cinch in. I have used the same needle for the borders as for the rest of the cardigan, but if you prefer the borders to be slightly more compact you may want to use a needle one size smaller
