Knitting confirmation..........
When following a graph you read it right to left, right? In the past Ive read them left to right then I read somewhere that the graphs should
be read the other way.
Has anyone seen them read back and forth and do they write them in this order?
Thanks!
i have seen patterns that you read to back and forth but then it is stated very clearly on the graph- I let myself be guided by the pattern details- if there is no instructions on there I would be lost! It doesnt say and since Ive started reading it left to right I will continue. Its a tension check at the moment anyway! Edited by sharan555 at 2012-12-9 15:03
In all the graphs Ive used, (unless the pattern states otherwise) they are read usually from the bottom, right to left, and then left to right. Usually they indicate which side is the right side.If you dont reverse, you might wind up with very strange results, for often patterns are NOT symmetrical!
I am a very experienced knitter, so I have no doubts about this!
Hope that helps! Edited by LouAnna at 2012-12-9 23:22
Ill read the forward and see what it says........ right now it just states follow the pattern but the numbers are listed as 1........................., then ...............................2, and from then on only the even numbers are written. Confusing, usually I follow just written directions not graphed.
I read the instructions, back and forth, depends on ws or rs of knitting. Thanks everyone! Here is a nice little guide that explains the fundamentals of reading graphic charts for knitwear. I think its rather useful to refer back to from time to time, although I think some graphs are constructed better than others ;P
& I have also added the above pages in pdf format if you wish to download and keep it with your graphic chart patterns as a handy reference :)
