Freeware for unzipping files
Edited by anniekins at 2015-5-4 15:54I noticed that quite a number of files downloaded are zip or rar files.
Here is a freeware that unzips just about anything - look for it at 7zip.org.
I quote from their website
7-Zip is a file archiver with a high compression ratio.
You can use 7-Zip on any computer, including a computer in a commercial organization. You don't need to register or pay for 7-Zip.
The main features of 7-Zip
High compression ratio in 7z format with LZMA and LZMA2 compression
Supported formats:
Packing / unpacking: 7z, XZ, BZIP2, GZIP, TAR, ZIP and WIM
Unpacking only: ARJ, CAB, CHM, CPIO, CramFS, DEB, DMG, FAT, HFS, ISO, LZH, LZMA, MBR, MSI, NSIS, NTFS, RAR, RPM, SquashFS, UDF, VHD, WIM, XAR and Z.
For ZIP and GZIP formats, 7-Zip provides a compression ratio that is 2-10 % better than the ratio provided by PKZip and WinZip
What's not to like? It does the job of unzipping almost everything successfully and quickly.
If you would like tozip up files to upload, it will also do the job nicely.
Trythis freeware - I've used this for years.

the problem with 7zip (that I use) is that when people has split a file in many files with winrar, 7zip has no the codes of the unzipping, so it has to extract every single one file, and all time giving message of repeating file... najmapyar replied at 2013-9-23 03:59 static/image/common/back.gif

Hi Najmapyar
Unfortunately when it is a rar file, very often you have to download the entire series of rar files to start it unzipping. Even with winrar, if you only have one rar file when there is more than one rar file to download, you will get an error message, whether winrar or 7zip.
With zip files however, you can download any single file, and it will still open into a folder.
Cheers
no, I mean when you have downloaded all files, (of course you have to do to have it complete), when the split has been done by WinRAR, the 7Zip can't hold with it very well
so I use the WinRAR for the split files, and the 7Zip for anything else
