I know this thread is quite old, but I thought I would add to it the fact that I make my own frames and floor stand, if you can use a drill to make holes it is very easy to do as the lumber store cuts the wood to measure for you.Can provide details if desired.

it depends on the measurements of the design but I use a rather large frame

I personally cannot get away with large frames, so I use as large a hoop as I can hold, then I roll the excess fabric and hold it with a hair clip, as long as you take the fabric out of hoop everynight it doesnt damage your work xx

I have a Mark 2 floor stand (at the moment with a GK pattern in it but it's also a very large design) and I'm very pleased with it. Unused fabric can be easily rolled up and I can work with both hands.
But I also know that many people work HAED patterns using hoops or Qsnaps.

I also use large quilting hoops to hold my fabric and use washing line pins to hold my fabric up.   I find I can't reach the top if I use a really large frame in my floor stand, so I prefer the smaller hoops.
