I always do mine the same direction as the top stitch. I think it looks "off" if the beads go the opposite way.

I do an X through the bead so it doesnt lean either way and I feel it is more secure like that

i always use my first leg stitch, so all stitches are in the same directions. I wouldßnt recommend a full Crossstitch, because the sometimes the designs are designed for half stitch and full stitch - take a look at the describtion!
