When I mess up the tension like this I usually turn my work so that the right side is facing upwards and I stick my needle into the V shape of the knit stitch that is to the left of that one and I stretch it a little bit and then I do the same with the one that is to the right. This helps redistribute the tension. Washing and blocking also helps

Maybe you did the stitch in the outer strand, or a mix with too much tension.
