petites vitrines - miniature dioramas with cross stitch
Here are a couple of completed miniatures using some motifs from a book called Petites Vitrines et Miniatures au point de croix.I use commercially available photo frames and then construct a box that fits to the back of the frame.Some of the furniture was bought, but I made the shelving unit in the Bibliotheque and the thread display in the haberdahers.
The cross stitch items are stitched on linen, one on one.You can use other motifs too that can be reduced by stitching one thread over one thread of linen.
The bibliotheque shows stitched butterflies display, stitched book covers, stitched lampshade and furnishings including the rug.
The haberdashers was fun to do - I stitched the various wall hangings, quilt and knitted the small jumper on cocktail sticks.I used the computer for the printable labels, bags and cross stitch kits, dressmaking patterns and cardboard bobbins.The trays were made from matchboxes covered in string to make them look like seagrass trays.The balls of wool were made using drinking straws and the cotton bobbins were made using the tubes from cotton buds.
Im already planning to do another for a sewing room. Ive made the dressmakers mannequin and a sewing machine.
