Do You Prefer Circular Needles or DPNs?

For knitting hats and other circular things, what kind of needles do you prefer, circular or dpns?

I prefer circulars. If I use dpns, they always fall off my stitches, so I end up having to pick up stitches, even if I use something, like an elastic, to stopper the ends.I now do everything that I can 2 at a time, like sleeves and socks in magic loop. That way if I make a mistake, its done on both so they are the same, and it turns into a "design feature" instead of a mistake. It also less noticible.

Only circulars ~ I keep a set of the longest ones I can find and use them for everything ❤

I like that idea!I probably need to get some longer cords because Ive decided to learn magic loop this year.

I use 2 circulars for nearly everything in the round, though I do use both DPNs and the new Addi FlexiFlips for sock gussets and the thumbs and fingers on mittens and gloves.

I prefer circular needles because they’re incredibly versatile and more comfortable to use, especially for longer knitting sessions. The weight of the project rests on the cord rather than my hands, which reduces strain and fatigue. I can use them for both knitting flat pieces and working in the round, which means I don’t have to constantly switch tools between projects. Plus, with techniques like Magic Loop, I can easily handle small-circumference projects like socks or sleeves without juggling multiple needles. Overall, circular needles make my knitting more streamlined, efficient, and enjoyable.

I started knitting using straight needles (my grandmother's, in fact), and bought a bunch of dpns, but after discovering circular needles and the magic loop method, I hardly use them anymore. Short circulars are not as fiddly as dpns in my opinion, and even if you hate short circulars, the magic loop technique is still superior to dpns, easier to get an even tension too, as there are only two points in the work where the knitting separates, as opposed to three/four when you use dpns.

I prefer circular needles over straight needles, which includes double points. If you’re going to knit a hat, just grab a second circular split the hat in half and keep knitting to the end. It eliminates the need of double pointed needles. You could also do magic loop and do the whole head that way then you won’t need a second circular or again, no double pointed needles.

I enjoy knitting only with circular wooden, sharp, not cold and not making any noise.

I like flexible DPNs. It's like using 3 short circulars. Have you tried them?

Circular. Always circular! I never even touch my dpns or regulars anymore.

I prefer the circular needles. I get ladders using the dpns.I usually use the magic loop method.

I also use circulars with magic loop method. I could not get used to dpns, however a friend knits with dpns and she does lovely work and does not like circulars so I suppose its what you are used to.

Not only do I get ladders with dpns, my gauge is much tighter, too.I think its because Im trying to prevent ladders and trying to keep my needles from slipping out of my work.
