When it comes to yarn on the other hand, I prefer to buy in store... mainly because I enjoy touching the fibers! I realize that Im semi-allergic to wool, its too itchy against my skin, so I have to test the yarns out against my skin before I make any large purchases for myself. Or else Ill never be able to wear the things I make for myself... I really love doing online shopping :P ;P Im always thrifting and find all sorts of treasures in dingy little stores and yard sales. It sounds horribly morbid, but when little old ladies pass away, their family usually doesnt want to deal with their crafty things.I scored a full set of DMC floss with the 3-drawer cases for free simply because no one in the family valued that kind of handwork.
All of the nicest things I have I found and fixed or thrifted over the years. Its like a treasure hunt. When something crafty is put in front of me, I consider it a challenge from the Universe to make something good out of it. I prefer to shop in person and especially when possible, to support the small local shops. I do not mind to use Amazon for books though. Its still the best source for those. Online, but that is due to practical reasons. I save a lot, the products are exactly the same, and there are no shops near me that carry cross stitch supplies anyway. Besides it easier to keep track of what I need at home.
