thanks for the info sallyrose now i knew their called orts. i have collected these since i began stitching august 2011. these are from 5 projects ive been doing.

There is a group that does a TUSAL (Totally Useless Stitch-A-Long).All they do is collect their orts and take pictures to show how their collection grows as they stitch.Funny, kinda cute!

That is funny. I have also noticed that on several blogs, there are monthly photos of jars/bowls with orts collected. I collect mine in an old coffee mug, but once it is full, I do empty it.
