How do you unravel Silks?

i want to start a large Ink Circles or Long Dog Samplers project using Silks, but Im not sure about unraveling them? Do you unravel the entire hank and cut before you start or do you cut pieces as they are needed for the project? Do they need to be twisted back up after youre done?

Any advice you have is greatly appreciated! Picture below of the silks Im referring to.

Since youll have to unravel to get to the strand you need, I would save them loose in a snack bag marked with the name/number to keep them clean. I dont think Id wrap them on a bobbin.
