Is Aunt Lydias #3 crochet thread similar to sport weight yarn for crochet dolls/clothes?

Ravelry says its thread weight, which is much thinner than sport weight. But Ive seen amigurumi made with that kind of yarn (especially from Chinese ### crocheters*), and the results are amazingly adorable!
If you dont know this site yet, I recommend hitting up https://yarnsub.com/ when you cant get a hold on the yarn mentioned in the pattern.
*edited for those who dont know the slang word for crocheter
