Me apuntare el consejo de humedecer un poco la hebra para que no se retuerza

About 10-12 inches for cotton floss for me.

I think its to do with an effort to standardise cloth lengths in the middle ages.At markets, cloth was measured from the sellers thumb to his nose and nobody would buy from a titchy man!Later on the yard was the length of the Kings thumb to his nose.A yardstick was produced on this standard, and everyone got the same measure (may be apochryphal, but sounds reasonable)				
			
		I use 30-50cm long strands. It depends if floss is tangling or not. I dont like unwanted knots.
