Posting Written patterns made from videos

Hey everyone!

Sometimes I like to make my own written pattern PDFS for youtube tutorials that dont have a free written guide. Im curious if something like that would be a good thing to upload?

I dont know if this is already a thing people do here or if it would be acceptable?

For a clearer example say there is a crochet video of a dragon.
The creator outlines their steps on screen and talks it through but doesnt have a written out pattern. Youd have to watch the video and possibly rewatch and skip around to fully follow the pattern.

I watch this video through, making notes

R1: Stitch instructions
R2: Stitch instructions

etc etc

Id even be down to make a cute pdf with screen shots because I like doing things like that.

Again is this a thing? Could it be a thing? Since the video is free would it have the same rules as posting a free pattern?

I am happy and prepare to follow all rules regarding this on the site,I am just curious about those more specific rules because I couldnt find anything about it :)

Open to again, concrete answers and rules if they exist and if not a discussion on if this is something that would be helpful.

I think you need to ask the mods directly if its allowed, but I personally would love to have such patterns! There are so many gorgeous projects on youtube, but crocheting from a video just doesnt work for me.

Its okay with a few things in mind:

Always include the designers name and the patterns exact name both in the transcript and thread title and please include the link to the video in the transcript. Do not include your own name or personal data for safety reasons, but mention in the written file that the pattern is a transcript (like "Crochet Designer - Granny Tote according to Crochet Designers video" or "Crochet Designer - Granny Tote - transcribed by Thisistotallynotmylegalname69420" or something along these lines) - thats mostly for the moderators not to immediately recycle the thread for being suspicious. Try not to refer to the video all the time for visuals, only when its absolutely necessary. If possible, please include a clear picture of the finished object in the written version. If theres an official written version (published by the designer) available, you have to very clearly disclose its not that (if theres a free written version, then the upload will be recycled tho). Therell more likely be a note by the moderator somewhere in the thread as well because depending on the pattern, its possible that there isnt a capacity to in detail compare the video to the written pattern. The best part: such uploads are not considered free, because by definition (from the rules perspective) a free pattern is something the designer distributes as-is on their own platforms, and this would be a derivative of that (similar case to translations). Other than that, everything else would be the same as usual.

If you have questions about this, feel free to ask!

Thats great! I do that also. And take screen shots too. And create my own "pdf" of the pattern.

Good idea. its laborious to follow a tutorial in Youtube, except to explain the techniques used.

Me parece buena idea.
