I usually lay a few towels down on the carpet in my living room and pin my damp item down to block. My living room doesnt get much use so I just tell my DH Ive got something down so he doesnt get a suprise.Ive been doing this for years and have had no failures for blocking and no issues with the carpet either. When I block my items are not soaking wet, just very slightly damp.If its fresh off the needles I use a spray bottle filled with water to damp down the item, and if its just washed, I make sure I have squeezed as much water out as possible before I put down on the towels.

I always block my natural fibres, but for acrylic, I dont block at all.Because its not a natural fibre, in my experience, once your item is done, its wash and wear. All my 100% acrylic sweaters and blankets go in the washer and dryer. If its got a bit of natural fibre Ill follow the washing/drying instructions on the ball band.If its lay flat to dry, Ill lay it out in shape, but wont pin it.

Hope this helps.
