WHY? Levels and access reasons for choices

Hello, I am hoping somebody can please explain the actual reasons why somebody adding a file to upload would then choose to restrict the people who can buy it to those of a certain level rating? I know when posting a file/pattern/design the choice to withold it from certain users of certain levels is frequently taken but I do not understand why anybody would do this? What is the advantage of this please? I cant figure it out because:
- is it because it pays better per sale? - Surely this would be lost as an advantage when consider the loss of potential sales from the user groups you restrict from access?
- is it because some folk dont want to share with strangers and the higher levels are people who have been on site longer? Surely this would not stop strangers and the person would probably be better sending it direct to their specific target audience?
- does it have any advantage at all?
I would love to understand as it is not nice to think the only reason would be just to spite or be unkind and surely if this was the case they would be totally on the wrong site to start with?

Since last year Read Permission should be "Unlimited", so there is no more restricted access. If you find one, you can report it here

This is interesting that all postings are suppose to be "Unlimited" as I have come across some that gives me a message that access is not available for my user group. I have been on this site for many years so I was stumped by this but didnt question it. I was unaware that there is a "report button" in the thread.

Yeah I dont really get it either, sometimes it just comes across as spiteful but if I ever encounter a pattern like that I just report it and its always solved within a day or two so I dont pay it all that much attention

This used to be done to encourage people to share and level up.
It is no longer allowed, please report such threads and mods will fox it.
