Straight or Circular Knitting Needles

Do any of you use straight knitting needles instead of circulars when knitting things flat?

I was thinking about this today and realized I havent touched a single one of the straight needles I bought when I first started knitting since I bought an interchangeable circular set. I even choose magic loop with a long circular over DPNs whenever possible.

Circular needle is a must! It feels more flexible, the yarn sliding smoothly with circular needle! :D

interchangable needles are the best!! I used to knit scarves on straight needles, and they bend a lot

interchangeable circular needles are my favorite!

I learn to knit with straight needles many years ago, when circular needles weren’t common. When I first knew about circular needles, I gave them a try and never went backwards ! You can’t stop in the middle of a row with straight needles or you will get distorted stitch and if you stop at the end of the row, chances are they will escape. However, I think the most annoyingthing about straight needles is they act as a lever and your hands have to carry all the weight while you are forming your stitches and things get worse and heavier each time. Circular needles are more kind for our hands !

I havent use them in ages. I always have some knitting on the go with me so its easier with circular, to pack them and to not poke people who are sitting next to me on trains or buses.Plus, if its bigger project, it easier to stretch it and see it.

I learned with straight needles when I was very young. Then I stopped knitting, and when I started again - about fifteen years ago - I discovered circular needles and I have never abandoned them. I would not know how to knit with straight needles anymore...

I was gifted a circular needles set without interchangeable chords (so I cant adjust the lenght depending on the projects) and I cant say I like them more, compared to the straight needles which, after all, I am more used to (I have to mention Im still learning knitting). Maybe its a preference thing? I can see how they can be more convinient to take around and see better the knit work, but the extra chord splitting my stitches its too bothersome...
Ill see if Id change my mind after getting better :)

Circulars for me! I really want an interchangeable set but its currently a bit above what I can afford. I have some fixed ones I use though and find them to be quite ergonomic. I have them in both 4" and 5" sizes!

I prefer circular knitting when possible as it avoids the hassle of sewing parts, but as long as my projects are flat and small enough to fit on a straight needle I go for straight.

Reason is my tension has always spontaneously been very high (have been working on it but its still high after 20-ish years of knitting regularly) and I end up breaking circular needles quite often because of that. Interchangeable ones are the worst.
Only straight needles survive my tension
