Repaint formats

Why are so many repaints only in xsd format and not PCS or .pat format please? The PCS/.pat format makes it easier to open in more programs.

Patternmaker (XSD) is a more popular program.
Personally, I prefer it to PC Stitch (PCS)

But hasnt Patternmaker been discontinued so there is a lot less functionality especially for people who didnt buy it in the past?
