Personally, I like interacting with others here. Not only to raise your level and what not, but because... it's fun! Nobody I know IRL likes knitting or is very crafty, so I don't get to chat much about it. Here? Well, everyone has their little crafts going on! And if I ever need a recommendation, advice, anything; people are glad to help.
You also have albums and blogs. If you need a space to document your crafts, maybe jot down your ideas. I'm sure you could use your space for that.
Or, you can just share and download patterns and magazines. Not the most fun personally, but hey! Still a valid use of the site :) Here, in addition to finding resources and ideas for your crafts, you also have the opportunity to contact people with the same hobbies as you, and friends to ask any questions, if you don't have anyone around you who knows the craft technique you do.:)
