Video transcriptions

Hello!

Some designers provide free video tutorials of their otherwise expensive patterns.
Provided that the design is not available (at all) on Pindiy, would it be okay to make a transcription of such video (in the form of a usual pattern, with glossary, materials, pictures etc.) to make it available to others? Or is it actual patterns only?

Excellent idea but ... How it works ??? Just user give a link?? (Other sites/channels links are not...
I intended to make a written transcription of the video, for the instructions to look like a standard pattern, on a PDF file.

An likely include screenshots of the video to illustrate the steps depicted in the tutorial. I would reverse-engineer some steps by watching the video.

Which would end up looking pretty much like any other pattern, but with the specificity that the file was not written by the designer themselves and there are little to no additional information provided (usual patterns often include additional information such as charts, notes about some specific stitches, yarn etc.)

My reasoning is that I already do this for myself (reverse-engineering patterns from video tutorials or other sources), and I would enjoy sharing this work with others.

PS : I would gladly provide you with an example if you would like.

I think that is an interesting idea. There are also many patterns that are only available as youtube videos. I never watch these videos since it is not how I like to crochet, and it requires constant access to the internet to view the video. A written version of the pattern, as long as it is clear, and includes all pertinent information, would be of interest to me since I like to print my patterns out, and carry the printout in my crochet bag when I am away from home.

However, how would these be moderated? How much time might that take the moderator to confirm the pattern with the video? Because they are free online, would they have to be priced and labeled as free here?

Hoping staff/moderators/admin might consider your idea
fingers crossed

But If you upload a video, picture etc... I will talk with our tech team (Can our servers do it, enough space etc.) I will ask to them technical possibilities ....

I liked this idea ofcourse... We can open "video-pattern" section Or in every section has "sub-section" for videos ...

Thats great

This would be helpful for sure, I'm not a moderator, but if the servers can handle it... It would certainly be useful. Besides, if the pattern is available online, I doubt any designer would have a problem with a transcription. You'd still might need to watch the video (giving them a 'watch') and anyone who'd like to print out the instructions would be able to do it without the hassle of doing it themselves. Plus, it's a way of saving those patterns if they disappear off the internet. I like it!

Hello Turquoise,

I have finished an example transcription for you to have.
How can I provide it to you? I can't send you a DM nor attach a pdf file to this post. Should I make a specific post then we delete it?
