help me pick!
what should be my first color work as a beginner? i want an easy to follow pattern should i go for the halibut or porcelainWhat size project? Halibut looks fun (and these are small https://www.pindiy.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=597102&fromuid=171889), but porcelain has fewer rows inthe pattern if it's a sweater. celiamerula replied at 2025-9-13 20:40

the halibut sweater! im looking to make a sweater but im a bit intimidated by color work.
Pick the one you really want to do.If it's only two colours it shouldn't be too confusing.Maybe try a test square with scrap yarn to get a feel.(And it has to be easier than cable knit :D) Both of your choices are really good patterns and have good and simple designs to work with. I'd pick the Porcelain Sweater though, because I think it's prettier and it seems to have less floats to carry. But my advice, make a little swatch of colorwork first, and you'll see that it's actually not that complicated. The hardest part is following the chart! You'll do great! I'm a beginner too doing colorwork, I've just did some small details on a cardigan, vest and hat for my grandaughter. I tried to start simple: a 3 rows pattern and 2 colours. And be careful with your knitting tension. Perhaps knitting a couple of gauges may help too. I agree with the halibut comments above C><
