Unpopular Crafting Opinions!
Let's share our unpopular or even controversial crafting opinions! I love these kinds of videos and I always love hearing people share their opinions even if I don't agree with them.All crafts welcome, let's be respectful of eachother's opinions and allow room for differences, this is just for a bit of fun.
Mine first:
1. I don't get the purling hate, it's not that bad!
2. The ranunculus sweater, to me it doesn't look pretty actually, it can even look ill fitting, I am surprised so many people have made it!
What are yours?
I don't get all additional vanity decor in embroidery/cross stitch: fancy scissors with feathers or who-knows-what attached, or bulky in-theme-with-a-WIP magnets, etc.
I also do not like protective fabric cases around the hoops, they look funny to me:) I like to knit scarf and shawls for gifts and it's really annoys me when creators don't show other side if project isn't reversible. They are showing scarfs/shawls from all kind of angles, carefully folded so you can't see the other side. Why? Show me how it looks on other side as well. I do go through project page on Ravelry hoping that some of the finished project will show how the scarf looks on other side. Same goes for creators that only showing how scarf/shawls is wear. I want to see whole thing, shape of thing thing, not just wrapped around the neck.
Also, craft community very often annoys me about judging people for using acrylic yarn. Not everyone can afford expensive hand spun wool and people make projects with what they can afford. Same goes for way of knitting. I have been told i knit wrong just because of the way i hold my wool. There isn't wrong way. I know how and what suits me and works for me. I think some yarns are too expensive for what they are! They are expensive because of the hype, not the quality.
I ditto that some crochet wearables are... not exactly pretty. But I also think that it depends on the body and the style. Not everything is gonna look good on everyone, and that's ok!
German Short rows are easy to do. I made them for a pair of socks as a beginner, and they were not hard to do at all. Designing them in a pattern, *that* I think must be hard! TestKnit replied at 2025-9-19 00:16

I agree with you on German short rows, I was so scared then I tried actually doing them and they were so fine

I agree!!But I'd go as far as to say that knitted toys are, too!In my view, crochet is for toys, knitting is for clothes!
can't stand all this chenille-yarn stuff. It looks so shapeless, plastic-like & all the same.
Even if I love a nice crochet garment, I second @bugcanyon222 , a lot of it looks ugly & ill-fitting. I agree a lot of crochet wearable are just not for me.I have knitted a sweater but I have never crocheted one.I have only crocheted blankets, kids stuff. Fiber crafts should be accessible to everyone and, thus, some need to use less expensive fibers, etc. The resulting spectrum shouldn’t be stigmatized but instead celebrated. bugcanyon222 replied at 2025-9-16 06:48

Yes! I like crocheting, but I don't like the look of most of the clothes!
A lot of crochet wearables are just so ugly! i don’t like crochet wearables and i find non acrylic yarn too expensive to buy any and maybe not end up completing the project :(
