Not all quilts are created equal. Some quilts, regardless of your level of quilting experience, demand all your time and attention. From the moment you discover the perfect marriage of pattern and fabric, they become an obsession. They push you out of your comfort zone and challenge you to try new techniques. Before you know it, they’re demanding your attention at all hours … a little piecing between coffee and shower in the morning, a quick afternoon cutting session when you’re meant to be cutting the veg for dinner, or just a few more seams when it’s way past bedtime! Not all quilts are like this, which is probably a good thing, because who has the stamina for the quilting equivalent of a marathon every time you hit the sewing machine? But isn’t it wonderful that even if you’ve been at it for decades, this humble craft can still inspire obsession of manic levels as we elevate cloth to art!
In this issue we MEET modern quilters Sherri Lynn Wood, Leanne Harvey and Wendy Chow who tell us what sparks their quilt obsession. We MAKE quilts of all colours, ranging from rainbow to subtle pastel, and we MOTIVATE you to make a monochrome quilt using scraps of a single colour with an article on how to achieve this with your scraps and a gallery of inspiration from quilters around the world. We chat about reusing, recycling and repurposing fabrics, block swapping a little differently, the latest fabric trends, binding quilts, FMQ motifs to use for HSTs, and reviews of the newest modern quilting books.
