Frustrated
Edited by anniekins at 2026-1-1 18:30I have not knitted my first sweater yet and I feel so frustrated and intimidated. It looks so complicated
I believe in you! Why do people even knit and ground? Why not it flat and then sew everything together Hi Sneezeefluff,
welcome to the forum.
I hope you start kitting your first sweater soon.
My suggestion is to begin with a simple project, one without any color work or difficult stitches.
Knitting in the round is not complicated and it is quite useful to knit caps, socks or sweaters as the knitted item does not require any sewing after casting off.
I hope keep us posted on your progress.
Hello, welcome to the forum!
I have some words of encouragement that will hopefully ease your hesitation and help motivate you to start knitting. I am a crocheter of a few years and for a long time I avoided knitting because it felt incredibly daunting and stressful, the first ever pattern I used (which is very easy to follow, informative and helps you understand the basics) was this one: https://youtu.be/_NpYRfha11c?si=Skjwt9cZfpOjqfa5
It also uses chunky yarn, which works up significantly quicker, is easier to manipulate and helps you see your stitches better. I recommend not knitting with a dark colour to start. If you have a specific pattern in mind that you really want to start on, I recommend searching every terminology you don't understand on YouTube shorts and following the video, I found that after my first project I desperately wanted to make a particular sock that wasn't in my skill level, so I had to stop and search many stitches, but overtime you remember and it becomes easier. You can only get better by trying, and you can only learn by researching! 2 weeks ago I was knitting my first sweater using that tutorial, this week I am now getting ready to knit intricate socks. Best of luck!
Watch You Tube videos it is how I learned.
Step by Step Sweater is a good one to try first but start with a scarf and then with circular needles, a hat.
Good luck. I’ve been knitting for so many years and when I read the instructions before beginning there are parts that I don’t understand, but everything gets clear when knitting and reaching every step. Just get out your needles and try, the only risk you ou are taking is succeeding, happy New knitting Year ! One stitch at a time. Remember: Your hobby must bring you joy. And yes, it requires patience and perseverance. So just enjoy it! Just keep trying, you cando this!
