Sticky Crochet hooks never again
Hi everione!!So the other day i was scrolling and found something very interisting.
I think this might help someone so i decided to share it here!! ;P
Has your crochet hook become sticky and is now a lint collector? Don't throw it away!
That rubbery coating used to give crochet hooks a softer feel, but which degrades over time, can be removed! It's very common on some brands of crochet hooks, hairbrush handles, and appliances like hair dryers and remote controls.
I do two things: sometimes combined. In this first video, I'm going to show you the more abrasive method. Soon, I'll show you the gentler method that works well... although sometimes it's not perfect. I usually combine them as STEP 1 and STEP 2.
The solution is to completely remove that rubbery coating, and acetone is one of the most effective methods.
✅ Materials needed: Acetone, lint-free cloth, orange stick (like the ones used for manicures), water, and soap.
✨ Step by step: Cleaning a sticky crochet hook
1️⃣ Soak a cotton ball or cloth with acetone (I prefer a cloth because it doesn't leave lint).
2️⃣ Rub the hook handle until the first layer of rubber begins to peel or lift.
3️⃣ When the rubber softens, gently peel it off using your fingernails or an orange stick.
4️⃣ Reapply acetone if necessary and repeat the process until the hook is shiny and no longer sticky.
5️⃣ Wash the crochet hook with soap and water to remove any residue.
6️⃣ Dry thoroughly.
I hope it helps someone!! :)
Interesting, thank you. I had never noticed the rubbery coating on my crochet hooks but one of them became quite scratchy so I wonder if that is because I damaged the outer layer? I should experiment with acetone as described to see if it helps. Thanks! Hi everyone!!
I´m glad that so many of you found my post useful!!
