Question about yarn gauge and warmth

Does anyone know: All things being equal (project, size, yarn material, etc.) is a hat made out of fingering (4ply) yarn warmer or colder than a dk or worsted weight yarn?

I would think it's colder since air can enter/escape faster.

Hm.. ok so the tighter the gauge the more insulating?

Generally the heavier the weight of the yarn, the warmer the garment, however there are a lot of variables including guage and fiber

Gotcha. That makes sense.

I think it's depending on balance between yarn and needle, gotta be tight
