Where do you get free patterns?

Is Pinterest the source of your free patterns?

Go to the Freebie code thread https://www.pindiy.com/thread-509071-1-1.html . Then go to the last page (or pages) of replies where the most recent freebie codes will be. Copy the title of the pattern and author name from the reply and put it into your search engine. Look for the Ravelry result and click to the Rav page for that pattern. Add the pattern to the basket, put the code in and amount should change to zero, download and enjoy!NOTE: Make sure the amount changes to 0 before you check out. Also, the pattern is only free if you grab it before the listed expiration date and time in the freebie thread, so be sure to check back a couple of times a day!The freebie code thread is not a discussion group, so please do NOT use reply to say "thank you for sharing”. To thank the uploader for a code, you can always rate their reply or comment in their reply with your “Thank you”. Don’t use the reply button unless you are posting a freebie code in the freebie thread.

A direct link to the current last 2 pages of the freebie thread are https://www.pindiy.com/thread-509071-446-1.html andhttps://www.pindiy.com/thread-509071-447-1.htmlHowever, this will change as more codes are added.

Anyone can share freebie codes in the freebie thread, but do NOT post external links to the patterns.

These are normally paid patterns that the designers offer for free for a limited time

I look at some brands who offer many free patterns in drive to sell wool (eg Purl Soho, Cascade and lots others) or fabric (eg.Mood or the Fabric Store) and you can modify from there. Most indie designers have at least one free pattern which allows me to get to know their writing style, pattern approach before i invest further in a pattern. Ravelry for knitting also has overwhelming wealth of amazing free patterns. You could never knit them all :-) I personally have never looked on Pinterest for a free pattern. Hope that helps

Pinterest can sometimes guide you to websites like this one or scribd, where you can download the pattern for free, although it's still pirating it. Truly free patterns... there are tons really. Ravelry, like West said above, is amazing because it's really easy to filter them, and it's a really popular website, so there's a LOT of content. My favourite pattern makers are Drops. You can't get the instructions as a PDF, which is really annoying. And I believe they don't do charts... but I might be wrong. Anyway, with a little experience, you can make almost anything with their instructions, and they have quite modern and nice designs as well as a lot of vintage ones.

Lots of YouTubers will sometimes give a free video tutorial but charge if you want a written pdf pattern. But if they have captions on-screen, sometimes I’ll quickly scan through and take screenshots, then compile all the screenshots together into a pdf myself. It’s takes a little work and not sure if it’s what you’re looking for but it’s super helpful for me personally… and I do the same thing with guitar tabs lol.
