I find the gold wears off very quickly, even within a small project!!!So size is much more important and will depend on the linen you are using.You dont want too much friction going in and out of the fabric and you dont want holes in your work.Perhaps as small as possible taking into consideration the number of strands of floss you are using too.

I prefer gold needles and don t find them too expensive.

I dont use them because I tarnish them quickly.. my skin reacts to gold.. even earrings turn my ears black in a day.I use platinum

I like them, but I prefer a ball tip needle over gold.

ahh.. mine tarnish pretty quickly, but they start off gold! lol   :) probably have a longer life though.

It doesnt matter as much as needle size. The golden tip makes the eye of the needle more visible (as in you know where it is on first glance), thats about it for me.

For me its largely the smoothness of the needle. Youre less likely to get a burred needle with the gold ones.
