I stitch on 18-count aida and prefer using size 26 DMC tapestry needles the eyes are large enough for two threads and they dont increase the hole size

More a type than brand, but I really like using a ball tip needle. It just glides through anything.

Bohin.  But i have a lot of john james, and i found some old madeira in my stash the other day (silver) and they are quite nice.  I have tried the sullivans ball point needles, but found them tricky on a haed.

Absolutely! As a new mom juggling a newborn and little pockets of crafting time, finding the right crochet hook can make all the difference. For beginners, I’d recommend hooks with ergonomic handles—they’re softer on your hands and help reduce fatigue during those precious moments when you get to sit and stitch. Brands like Clover Amour are known for their comfy grips and smooth hooks that make yarn glide effortlessly. Another great option is the KnitPro Waves set, which is budget-friendly and has colorful, cushioned handles that make crocheting a bit more fun. If you prefer something lightweight and easy to handle, Susan Bates Silvalume hooks are a solid choice. And of course, classic aluminum hooks like Boye or HiyaHiya are reliable and get the job done without breaking the bank. At the end of the day, it’s all about what feels good in your hand—because with a baby in one arm, comfort is king!
