Another new technique to me! Thank you for sharing.
The brush for the dog is the same as the brush for carding wool. This is possible to help your brushing of yarn? I wish it will be.

For the brushing technique, you'll want yarns that are soft and fluffy, like chenille or velvet. These fibers will give you that nice, brushed texture when worked up. Acrylic or cotton yarns can also work, but they might not give you the same soft, fuzzy finish. If you can, try to get yarns with a good amount of texture to them, like those with a slight halo, as they work best for this technique!
