Best type of yarn to make coasters ?

I love making coasters , but im trying to make a coaster suite for hot stuff or as decorating the table as a plate coaster , sorry i dont know how to explain , i bought a t shirt yarn unfortunately it was really thick which hurt my hand while making even though i used a big hook like 8mm , and now i bought this type of yarn diva plik ribbon yarn

as a test if it may work or playing with it , if it was not suitable , what is the best type or yarn to make a coasters even if its not for hot stuff and just for decorating ?

I would say  t-shirt yarn or at least cotton. Acrylic Will melt

Yes, cotton is best for use with hot things since acrylic can melt at high temperatures. Wool would also work for heat (maybe not as good as cotton but it is easier to knit) but if you use it for cold things (like a cold drink that will sweat) it can absorb the water and hold it against the surface you are trying to protect. what about the the t shirt yarn in the picture ? its a 100% recycled cotton , does it work ?

for potholders and trivets people use cotton or wool because neither will melt - i would think for coasters cotton because it will absorb any condensation
