I have a cross stitch approx 40x90cm. I’m trying to work out how much seam to leave around it. Do you all eyeball it or use a calculator or other method?

I prefer 3inches around my stitching, but YarnTree has a good Cross Stitch Calculator, as per the fabric you are stitching on.

If you frame it yourself 3 inches all around is good. But if you have it framed professionally they can work with as little as  1/4 inches. If you google how to frame yourself there are some good tutorials on youtube how to do it. Very good luck.
