Replies visible only to author?

okay am not sure what is the purpose of this one,  "replies visible only to author"?  how will the person who posted a thread be able to read what was the written if it can only be seen by the one who replied and not the one who created the thread?  Am I missing something?  Hope someone can tell me the purpose?

This only happens for bounties.I think it is to hide (and protect) the identity of the person who uploads the pattern for the bounty.

As pitussa says, its due to privacy.

Moderators will keep an eye on bounty posts. You may be contacted by a moderator when a bounty is filled. They will let you know which reply to set as best answer. Or moderators may take care of it, as I understand it.

I, too, dont understand the logics behind this. I wish all replies were visible to everyone.

It is - but not only matter of privacy.

Users often leave link of the pattern even if they are not pattern uploader.Bounty owners believe them and  set their answers as best,and then real pattern uploader stay without reward.

Do not worry,every bounty owner will be informed when their bounty become solved.Until then...relax and wait ...and dont worry
because you cant see who wrote what-moderators can see.

Bounty area is much much effective since we started to moderate in this way .
First of all : many of pattern uploaders didnt want to leave link of the pattern in bounty because they were affraid.With hidden replies this problem is solved,and everyone feel comfortable in Bounty area.
