You can thread a lifeline or put a stitch marker on the edge of every 5 to 10 rows, whatever works for you. If its your first time cabling, I really recommend the lifeline! Some circular needles have a hole near the cable join where you can easily add a lifeline and it will get caught inside stitches as you knit across the row.
As for patterns, Patons has a free cable sweater pattern called "Patons Honeycomb Aran Sweater". If you search Google for that youll find it easily. I havent knit that particular pattern, but it looks very nice!
You can also look at cable stitch glossaries and try to find a main motif that you like the look of, and then search for patterns that feature that motif. |
