You get pin by posting (I'll get 10 for this :)) Thank people for sharing, comment in the diary sections. You get one pin for visiting other peoples pages (up to a maximum per day). Post patterns (check out the guidelines first). And of course the daily and hourly tasks.
(Also, you get a certain amount of pin each day to rate posts - costs you nothing, but they're not part of what you can spend so it's nice to use them)
