After a few years, I finally got my crochet hooks out again, but where to begin with so many fun things to make?! What do you recommend?

At first try to find out what you like to make and then it's just trying to pick up your skills.
There are so many things: clothing decoration amigurumi potholders and so on and so on.
My opinion is to start with something smalll (depending on your skills earlier)

i am the same way! I want to do so many things but I've no time. I need to learn to do amigurumi!!

When I hit an idea drought, I revisit an FO, look up the pattern on Ravelry and lurk through fellow creators' projects. As we have this one project in common, I often stumble upon other patterns and colour schemes that tickle my fancy. This will usually sober me up from feeling overwhelmed.
