Thank You. It looks as though most people sew the edges with the machine.  Post time 2013-9-25 06:38

I used to use masking tape but now I trim the edges with pinking shears and then use fray stop - it looks as though it might stain the fabric or make it stiff when you apply it but it does neither.

Think I will be stitching edges in future.  Post time 2013-9-30 06:42

I tape the edging with painter's tape. I hope this isn't bad as I'm still fairly new to this whole business.... hahaha Guess I"ll find out when my first project is finished and I"m dealing with the edges.

Thank You. Seems as though people have their own way of doing edges.  Post time 2013-10-13 16:24

I'm using masking tape for the first time and will see how that works out. I've used fray check before and have found that stops working after a while.

My sewing machine is always out, so I use a large zig-zag stitch for the edges.

I have always taped my edges with a paper type tape. It usually comes right off or either I don't handle it much until it's framed. I never sew my ends.

I have just stitched my edge on my new piece.  Post time 2013-11-6 06:38

I zigzag the edges - even including the time to take the machine out, plug it in, and sew the edges, it takes about 5 minutes total, it is really fast to do!

I have my fabric serged when I buy it and if I order from someplace that doesn't serge the edges, I do it myself or use a zig-zag stitch on the sewing machine.

Before it broke I used my overlocker (serger for US people)... now? If my aida isn't painted, (which is fray resistant in itself)  I zigzag the edge on my sewing machine. Twice if it's linen or evenweave.

I zigzag the edges and then straight stitch over the zigzag, (with my machine)
