Our 22-year-old daughter from hubby's previous marriage told us in mid April that she decided to get married a month later on Memorial Day (5/27).... And No, she wasn't pregnant (we made it a point to ask)... She just really wanted to get out of her mom's house and to get married. So, this meant hubby and I had about 5 weeks to find and finish a wedding gift that she might like - on top of helping prepare for the wedding. Well, since our entire family is a big fan of "Nightmare Before Christmas", we decided on this C2C afghan.
This is my very first C2C afghan. I had NO idea how big it would be (it's on a Queen size bed), neither did I know how much time it would take. Once I started getting into color changes, I realized that it would take me approximately 3 months to complete if I were to take it easy on my hand. But since I only had about 5 weeks to the wedding, I decided to push through anyway. Foregoing all of my daily tasks, I literally weaved in the the last stitch the night before the wedding. Also, after 4 months of making items for our niece's baby shower and another 5-week marathon session on this afghan with no break in between, the only 2 parts on my right hand without arthritis pain are my middle and pinky fingers. So, 3 types of compression gloves for fingers and hand are now officially part of my craft supplies. (for some reason, these additions did not make me happy like yarns did *sob*)
At the end, the gift was very well received. Our daughter LOVED and really appreciated the afghan, which was the best compliment a crafter can receive :)
PS: You can barely see it in the picture, but the white were not in the same shade. We picked several big skeins of Crafter's Secret in White from Hobby Lobby. Later, we discovered that the shade of white varies even though they were supposed to be the same color. So, I checked again to make sure they were from the same lot number, and they were. We decided to continue with what we had on hand anyway. Then later on, while I was rolling bobbins, I noticed that the shade even changed in the middle of one skein. I normally love using Hobby Lobby yarns, but the Quality Control of their Crafter's Secret yarn is so poor, I think I will stay away from the Crafter's Secret line from now on.

(Hubby is 6'1" and still had to raise his hands to hold it. Very glad she loves the gift.)
