Unable to extract .zip files

I downloaded a pattern in .zip format.  I get all the way to selecting the folder in which I want to save the files and then depress "extract files" but receive an error message that Windows Explorer has stopped responding.  Im not in IE though, Im in Firefox.  Do I have to be in IE in order for the files to extract??  Thanks!

Explorer is  your Windows file manager.   So Internet Explorer has nothing to do with opening your zip file.  It could be that the zip file extension is not associated with a program.
When you right mouse click the zipped file it should give list of programs and a statement "open with", select your extraction program.  It should then extract.

I use 7zip which I find suits my needs for opening zips and rars.    There is also WinZip and WinRar all of these programs are free to download on the Internet.

Thanks so much.  I did download 7-Zip and was finally able to extract the files.
