Im keen on learning to knit, and I can do the garter stitch alright, but thats about it. Id love to practice more but am sooo tired of scarves and dishcloths! Drop me your favorite beginner-friendly projects! (Ive checked Ravelry, but I like hearing from actual people who can give specific ideas of things to search on there!)

I took some Reddit advice and decided to do a portion of a scarf from Tincan Knits to learn the very very basics again, and am happy to report I now understand the purl stitch... I literally didnt realize my tension was just crazy high when I last tried knitting, so no wonder I was having trouble getting stitches to work. I also didnt understand how you need to move the working yarn either in font or behind the last worked stitch. Im slowly getting faster and am really amped to learn more. I just want to make nice sweaters eventually! (Crochet sweaters are fun but SO bulky.)

Yeah, I used to have wrestling events with the yarn when I started knitting. Good job on learning to purl  Details Reply Post time 2024-2-28 09:22

Saturn Rings by DROPS Design
DROPS Headband in Alaska and Shawl in Vienna. You can find it on Ravelry and Garnstudio.com.

Its worked back and forward. Rated easy on ravelry, and has a ton of finished projects there.

I agree with Alamom on  hats. Also maybe a scrunchie (if you wear those)? Or a mug cozy?  There is a free mug cozy pattern by Nimble Needles with a simple cable that might be a fun challenge if youre up for it (^ ◡ ^) ♥

If you just want to do something small I recommend the bow from PetiteKnit because its garter stitch but you also learn how to increase, decrease, and how to make an i-cord edge. Theres videos for how to do those things everywhere on YouTube and it wont take too long. Then by the end, you have a nice bow to put on clothes, in your room, or even glue on a hair clip and wear it out.

If you want to challenge yourself a little more Im currently making the Hazy Skies sweater by Ahoneyknits and its very easy but looks so nice. Its a simple 1x1 ribbing with stocknet stitch, waffle stitch, and seed stitch. She includes how to make all of those sections by explaining, (knit 1, purl 1) or (Knit 1, purl 2) and then at the end you stitch them all together and you have a sweater. Then if you need help with anything you can just look up a video, the hardest thing with this sweater is how long itd probably take but I think its really worth it.
