Where do you get the best deals on your yarn?

Ive always got an eye out for good deals on yarn. Some of my favorite places to check are Facebook Marketplace, the Nextdoor app, and I really enjoy the Hobbii yarn since there are usually sales. Ive also heard of folks going to thrift stres and unravelling sweaters for super cheap yarn!

Where do you get your yarn? What tricks do you use to keep costs down for this (potentially expensive) hobby?

i dont buy cheap wool for a jumper to knit,
its not worth it because i wear the jumper for longer

i use a bunch of drops yarn and i get it on wool warehouse whenever it goes on sale, theyll usually have a rotating selection of their yarns at 30% off almost all the time. it kind of sucks when theres a specific yarn i want and i have to wait a while for it to come back into rotation, but i can get a sweater quantity for 30-40 bucks depending on whether its merino or has mohair or something

when walmart gets pricey stuff and marks it very cheaply.  rare but awesome!

Saving much money and getting longer lasting projects by no longer being a thoughtless yarn snob.  Box store yarns are not bad yarns because they are mainly man made fibers.  I do love natural fibers but fiber but when making projects that need to be tough, I will pick a yarn that has a large proportion of acrylic or nylon or 100%

Because of shipping costs it almost always pays to just buy in local stores. Rarely do I shop from hobbii and equivalent online yarn shops. I mostly use fingering and sport weight yarn which is cheaper per product made.

Yes, this is a big one.
And also using the yarn I bring into my home. While Ive knitted and crochet for 20+ years, I do not own a massive collection of unused yarn nor unfinished big expensive projects.
Only buying yarn for a specific project also helps. Knowing what I want to make and what I need before I go shopping for yarn. It saves one from the stash monster collection.
