I usually stitch a thread to show the center top to bottom, then another side to side. This is to make sure the design is centered.I do not have any fancy hoops.I did once have a frame made of wood that had rollers on the top and bottom. It kept everything taunt.

Я пользуюсь разметкой с помощью нити, фламастеры и карандашислишком не надежны и оставляют следы.

Always start from first grid from left. And I am really happy with my wooden frame

It is better to use scroll frames for large project. It can refrain from the dirt for the cloth.Though, you need to practice alot because you feel a little bit unease if you used to stitch on hand.

Large designs (haed etc) i have started top left corner and gridded as i needed (per page). Now though, i buy pre gridded.I use frames, as I cannot hold so much fabric without losing patience. If im tired, i just stitch something smaller that evening, in hand.I dont always like sitting at a frame.
