Amigurumi V or X Stitch
Edited by Mayy at 2019-1-17 15:11Hello!
I want to know your opinions on this!
I love to crochet Amigurumi, and since from the start I learned to single crochet the X stitch.
For the V sc: wrap the yarn over the crochet hook and pull up a loop. Continue as normal.
For the X sc: wrap the yarn under the crochet hook and pull up a loop. Continue as normal. By doing this, you get a X-shaped look.
Did you know of this? I hope so! It gives your work a whole new look and you can choose which one you prefer the most!
This X shape makes the stitches more neat and uniform, but a little bit smaller (tighter) as well.
The V shape makes the whole work softer, I think.
99% of my Amigurumi is made with the X look, but right now Im a little confused of which one to choose. Both are beautiful!!
What do you think of this? Which one do you prefer?
Search for "Pica Pau Yan" on Instagram and see more of her work. She uses the X shape stitch and she also has a video on how to do it.
And there are videos on YouTube to help you achieve this look!
I only ever knew about the V way, how do you handle the X way when a pattern tells you for example to hook under both lines of the V? I always crochet with the "yarn over"(the "V") because that's how my mom taught me, but I love both! Now that I've seen the photos you've posted, since I want to make a little Batman keychain, I'm thinking about using the "yarn under" technique! I do sell my crochet so I use the v sc all the time simply because its a bit quicker, and time is money? But when I make detailed small amigurumi for myself rather than my business ,I use x to make it just that more neater and cleaner. I can't crochet and I can't understand how people who do can differentiate between American and others patterns and follow the different terms for the same thing. I always do yarn under (the 'X') for amigurumi as I like the look but both are great! It's personal preference. thankyou so much! i want to start crocheting amigurumi since i only crochet wearables. this is helpful! I prefer yarn over (v stitch)! It's what I learned first and I prefer the texture it creates my body automatically wants to yarn over. It takes forever to finish if I try to yarn under I like the V better :) But I was glad to find out about the X! Thanks for the clear explanation! I prefer the "x" stitch, it seems so much prettier on amigurumis I did not know this at all! Are there pictures to show the difference? I am quite curious to see how different they look! Very interesting! static/image/common/user_online.gif FluffyQueen88 static/image/common/clock.gif 2019-1-17 13:48

Sorry, I uploaded the pictures now! Hope you like it. Very nice ! I think X gets better. It gets really tight. Çok güzel!!! Paylaşım için teşekkürler!!! I prefer the x sc, neat and tight, not showing holes when stuffing I have heard of 2 ways to crochet Amigurumi. They were called yarn over and yarn under. I like your explanations and pictures. This helps show the difference between the two techniques. static/image/common/user_online.gif Mayy static/image/common/clock.gif 2019-1-17 14:15

Wow, those pictures are great and really show the difference! It looks like the xs give a more even texture to the fabric but the vs are maybe a bit smoother looking? I think I might like the regularity of the xs best but both are very nice.
Its really interesting to see this difference. Thank you so much for sharing! I use both ways. Personally prefer the "X" sc.;P
