convert knitting patterns
is there a way to convert kntting patterns into crochet patterns?i like the alan dart patterns but i cant knit :( I dont know but I use the picture ones as cross stitch patterns. Yes, it is possible.
I have not done it before, but google forconvert knitting pattern into crochet and you will find interesting articles on the points to consider and steps to do for the conversion.
Basic idea:
- Experiment with gauge to determine what size crochet hook and yarn will give you the same number of stitches per inch as the knitting pattern requires.
- Divide the required number of knitting rows in half throughout the pattern. Crochet stitches are generally twice the height of knit stitches.
- Replace the number of cast-on stitches in your knit pattern with an equivalent number of crocheted chain stitches. Do not include the original slip stitch or the stitch on the crochet hook when counting stitches.
- Substitute a single row of half-double crochet stitches for three rows of knit
- Use a row of double crochet to replace four rows of knit
- Create ribbing by replacing the knit 1, purl 1 pattern with crochet stitches worked in the back loops of each row.
Specially for toy patterns: The crochet fabric will normally be stiffer than the knit fabric. Therefore the sewing of e.g. small parts might be difficult or not result as expected.
But go and try it! Im sure, you will make it.
If there is a will, there is a way.I think it is "easier" - if it can be called easier - if your amigurumi making crochet skills are fairly good - to look at the items you want to make and approximate what they would be in single crochet.Heads, limbs, are quite straightforward.It would be harder, for instance, to replicate a pattern in a blanket perhaps.I have often looked at things and figured out how to make without a pattern, also from knitting if it were amigurumi.Give it a try.There are some sites that give basic amigurumi instructions for bodies, heads, limbs, and facial features.Experiment and have some fun with it.
