How can one avoid this duplication?

Edited by pepistoyan at 2025-6-16 14:22

    Hi everyone!

Writing a lot of comments inevitably leads to repetitions.
I have come across the same comment 2, 3, 4 or even more times.
I also sometimes repeat myself. Especially when I rate a beautiful post.
Please forgive me for this, I don’t want to duplicate myself and I don’t do it on purpose.

Do you agree that I am not a robot and I cannot remember the hundreds of posts that I view and comment on a day?

Sometimes I don't comment on a post just because I don't know if I've already commented on it.
Sometimes I go through all the comments to see if I've written in that post so I can comment on it and not duplicate myself.
This takes a lot of time.

I am having difficulty with this problem.

Sometimes the administrator also steps in to warn about duplication, which I think is unpleasant for him.
Personally, I haven't received a warning

How can this duplication be avoided?

Is there anything that shows that I've commented on that post so I don't duplicate myself?

I think that those who comment on the post before it has been reviewed and approved by the moderators also do not want to duplicate
themselves and therefore comment first. Even if it is not approved, they do not lose.
The topic goes to the Recycle Bin, and the person who posted it obviously missed something and can post it again.

Please, let's discuss this topic.
I think it will be useful, especially for new members of the forum.

How to handle this and what should I do?

That happened to me yesterday or the day before.
First my post wouldn't appear, the page was extremely slow again, and then it was suddenly there three times.
I tried to edit the last 2 with “post by accident” or something like that, but that wasn't possible either. For whatever reason.

If we at least had the possibility to become active ourselves and delete double posts.
Nobody does that on purpose. All in all, it's very unfair if such multiple posts, which are also due to inadequate website performance, are fined.

Duplicates do happen- to everyone. I try to keep this from happening by going through all the replies in any thread that I am not sure of. If you click "ctrl" and "F" the find option comes up- then put your user name in the pop-up box and hit enter, then click on the next page of replies, and repeat the process. If it says 2 instances found, then I know I have replied in the thread, If it only says 1 instance found, that is the user name at the top of each page (ie NOT a reply, but the normal user info at the top). It only takes a second per page.

Duplicates also often happen due to the site having a tediously long lag after hitting enter, and sometimes nothing pops up on the screen indicating your reply has been processed/accepted. It happens to me occasionally, although I am getting a little better at refreshing the page before I click enter a second time, but sometimes my patience is having a bad day.

Hello,
I withdrew 200 x2 points or 400 points because I answered the same post twice. I didn't do it on purpose either. Sometimes the microphone blocks a little bit and I click again so 2 post. I think the punishment is strict especially if it doesn't apply to everyone

There are ways to avoid duplication!

And here is my conclusion.

The rule is: "One post, one reply"
Applies to everyone.

How to avoid duplication.
1. Check, 2. Write down, 3. Rate

1. The fastest way to check is (Ctrl+F), although it needs to be activated on every page.

2. You can save the pages in Bookmark.
In the browser, you can create a folder and save pages there.
But of course, they can't stay there forever. They will accumulate.
Especially if you want to increase your level like me you will have to comment on hundreds of posts(Which I don't recommend at all).

So, the third method comes to the rescue.

3. Rate a post:

From level 4 I can rate per day.

40 posts x 1 pin,
or 20 x 2 pin,
10 x 4 pin
or different.
You can rate as you see fit.
So if you come back to that post later and see that you rated it, you will know that you commented on it.

Other ways:
You can only comment on new posts.

You can follow a user's threads. There is a date by whom and when the post was last commented on. These are my threads: pepistoyan's space

You can comment on topics. For example: I like Hardanger. I type Hardanger in the search engine
or click Tags: HardangerThere is also a date there when and who last commented.

You may find other ways that will be good for you. You can share them.

Please do not fill the topic with just a "Thank you" if you have nothing to add to it.

Comment, Rate, Don't Duplicate!

Good luck!

Sorry I can't give an example of my repetition.
Here's what I came across now:

We wrote our all rules on forum bulletin section , but reading so less :)) After 1-2 punishment, they learn our rules and they check our rules for cheking these punishments ... It is web sites difficulties ... I can not / want toapply these rules as a "knife" ... Just I want to people love our site , enjoy so lot ... But I dont want to they dont go so far againist our rules... Tiny warns , tiny touches mostly enough for their education :D, understand what happened in here

Believe me all penalty touches made by me , report by other users ... Because they apply and obey our rules , when they see rule braker users they report to me ... And they are so right about it. If we put a rule , this rule must be for everyone :D

We have more than 500.000 (active 400.000) member how can I be sure read these rules (and understand ofcourse) ... People never read these rules ... Even every section has rule part top of the section... Believe me most people didnt see these rule... I can understand they are here for patterns ofcourse .... They can make 1-2 time duplicate , But if some one report to me , same post 10 reply I must give a warn and penalty points ... Belive me just for teach them , Just say for calm down look around, there are lot of post ... :D

I understand. Your job is to be uncompromising with all those who violate the rules.
I know you ...
Thanks to chrisbacon:D ... But We never punish to people with 1-2 duplicate replies...It must be a habit / behaviour ... If any user reply to post january , maybe february replied again... We never punish for that already ... Or "slow" issue 1 time repetetion never punished by us ofcourse :dizzy:

Anyway, If Chrisbacon show the way for you, It is great :D (ctrl+f) works for only that page , If the post has 34 pages you must do for every page ... :D But it is works ofcourse

We have nearly 53 million posts, even same post repetition replies not so possible, except made on purpose ... some users reply to only daily posts , It means daily 50-60 posts / patterns , Or they choise only 2 days in history after sort for date... They reply to these days posts... Or they can choise pages for replying after sort for date ... Every person can find the own ways... As I said we have 53 million post on the site

We say what is the rule, Users find the excellent ways

I understand. Your job is to be uncompromising with all those who violate the rules.
I know your job is not easy, especially now that the site is growing with new and new members.

I read these rules before I started posting regularly on the forum. I know I shouldn't duplicate, and I didn't feel good when I broke this rule.
That's why I opened this topic.
I wanted to find out how to deal with this problem and not repeat it again.

I also wanted to find out how other members deal with such a problem. I didn't expect that we would be talking about fines.

So far, except for ChrisPBacon. No one else has given me a practical answer on how to avoid duplication.

I hope that manange now knows why the fine was.
I will also try not to duplicate.

Thank you for taking your time and participating in this discussion.

Duplicate comments can arise from a variety of issues related to website functionality, user behavior, or even system errors.

Common causes include errors in the website's code, such as plugins or dependencies that are not initialized properly,
or problems with the way comments are processed in databases.
Which is the technical side of things.

User-side issues like slow internet connection, multiple clicks on the submit button, or browser caching also lead to duplicate comments.
Which happens quite often here on the forum.
That's why I wrote in the previous comment that I reload the page a few times to make sure I'm not duplicating.
And so everything gets complicated.

Frelldor Publish time 2025-6-17 08:46

I just give it a "like". As you know, you can't like it twice. When I try to like it again, the system tells me that "you've already rated this topic." And I immediately understand that I've already been here and written my "Thank you."
But duplicates still happen to me. Sometimes the site freezes. I click the "Send" button and nothing happens. I wait a bit and click again. Again, nothing happens. And so on several times. Then suddenly the connection is restored and I see two or three of my identical comments.
Therefore, I think this explains the widespread phenomenon on this site, when one user writes three "Thank yous" in a row.
It's sad that someone was fined. I don't think that people intentionally write multiple comments.

Yes, that's it.

If that doesn't apply to everyone, I've been well shy about it. Like you, I see a lot of double post. This is proof that there is a problem of transmission on the site.

Maybe the administrator warned or imposed fines, I don't know.
Maybe I was fined too, without knowing or understanding.

It's fair that everyone should be fined when they duplicate.
But first there should be a warning. That would be the fairest. Right?

Hi, I have the same problem, I don’t want to reply twice but has happened accidentally..
....the best option would be like with the rate, that we could do it only once!

No! If it is on this principle we will not be able to comment as we do now.
I have this on my page:

But it shows my activity for yesterday and today and it is not convenient.
It should be something else... I don't know what though.

Filokolobrzeg Publish time 2025-6-16 23:39

I meant commenting once where we leave the text sth like : “thx for sharing “ under the patterns.

Hollyhobby Publish time 2025-6-17 00:28

It happened to me also, indeed it costed me.
I think the easiest way to avoid this, if you rate the topic when you comment.
It helped me this way to avoid replying twice
