I cant stitch on dark fabric anymore but if I want to make a small design on dark fabric I use white or ecru and stitch the background with black or navy floss - one thread, whole cross stitch and am quite satisfied with it.
I like stitching with black fabric because the colours look great, daytime stitching and white material or light from behind make it much quicker.
enjoying reading the ideas here too.. as dark colours are my favourites
Have really enjoyed reading all these tips as always wanted to stitch on dark material but have never done it yet but I will take all these tips to heart
Thanks
Currently stitching on black aida with 3 strands and it is hellishly difficult. Tried light above and light under and both hurt my eyes. Not game enough to risk talc but Ill definitely try a white cloth on my lap next time. Thanks for the tip!
I have a daylight lamp that I use when stitching on dark backgrounds, position a lamp under you where you happen to be stitching to gaze onto the fabric but not enough to blind you, works for me x
