Floss Calculation

Does anyone have a good way of calculating the amount of floss that is needed for a pattern ?

I am going to make http://www.pindiy.com/forum.php? ... =anniversary%2Brose and am starting the planning and such - but in terms of the amount of floss needed I have no idea what to do.

on micheals website i found this
Using 2 strands of floss on 18 count fabric, youll get approximately 45 stitches from an 18" length of floss. There are approximately fifty-one 18" lengths containing 2 strands of floss per skein.
