There are specialty stitches and threads required for this pattern, but all are very well described and illustrated.
Stitches include: Parisian, Tent, Scotch, Diagonal Mosaic, and Long.  
Specialty threads include:  Pearl Cotton, Krienik braid, Rainbow Gallery Bravo! and Alpaca, Thread Gatherer Ribbon, Needle Necessities Overdyed floss.  
Star and Heart Charms are also required.
You can of course use your creativity to change threads and embellishments to what you have on hand or prefer.
