How to wind a center-pull ball of yarn.

I havent tried winding by hand, but I bought a small winder that was under $20. Only problem was that it could only handle 3 oz of yarn at a time, so I wound up buying a large winder. It can handle a full Red Heart super saver 7 oz skein and I love the winder. I hang them on the wall on a pegboard.

I like using the butterfly method. Where you hold an end of the yarn and wrap a loose figure eight around your thumb and forefinger. Then after a few figure eights, you take the butterflies off your fingers and fold them so that the yarn end is in between. Then you pinch that between your thumb and forefinger and wrap until you have a decent sized ball. Then you can just keep wrapping.
