[Tips Discussion] air soluble pens

I've never gridded before, and I would like to try it on my next project. I'm aware of water soluble pens, but then found air soluble ones, when the ink disappears itself without washing. Has anyone tried these before, how long does it take for the ink to fade and would you recommend them?

Thanks

I have an air soluble marker, the lines fade pretty quickly especially if there is hot/humid climate. I found they fade also with contact with the skin and some warm water. They last between 4-5H to 24-26H depending on a lot of things. For the water soluble one I can't recommend any but if you don't want to regrid the project everyday I would use the Bohin mechanical pencil that comes in very different colors, I prefer the white and green leds.

I dont use air soluble pens. I grid when I have my project on stand so it usually work for weeks I think I'll get annoyed pretty fast if my grid will disappear on me & instead of stitching I'll have to re-grid. So I use water soluble & uron soluble which stay on fabric for years if I need them to

I've been using the Pilot Frixion pens for quite awhile now.  They work great, are affordable and you can get various colors.  You can also find them at places like Target.

i alwaxs use blue (only blue - not any other color) water soluble pens and never had any issues with it. I always wash my finished projects, so i don´t care about the water pens

I have used the air soluble pens before and it just depends on how much moisture is in your house.  In the summer when my air conditioner is going I am lucky if the markings last a day on the fabric, in the winter when its dryer in the house, the marks will last 3 or 4 days.  So if the project is big and you do not want to have to keep remaking the fabric I would suggest using the water soluble pens.  Good luck with your project.

Thanks for your reply. I think I'll avoid air soluble pens, and either use the water ones or grid with cotton.

In my case, it takes just few minites to fade.
So I have to draw grid again and again.

Wow, you should really pick the other options! I wonder why it could be that fast at your place? {:3_54:}

I use Pilot Friction pens (it disappears when you use iron and reappears when you put in cold)
